Matt's Corner

Memorial Day Weekend 2011

We’ve shared the greatest of memories on this beautiful island…

and driving over the Coronado Bridge always brings the fondest of recollections flooding back;

all the treasured times we’ve shared with our favorite Mr. & Mrs. K…

those fantastic years together amidst college… and double-dating… and those newly married days….

we were inseparable, us four…

they are those special kind of friends…

where friendship comes as easy as breathing…

and you become apart of the family, gladly getting to share-in on a few of their great adventures…

J

and so, when I found myself making that familiar left-hand turn onto Orange this past weekend, I couldn’t wait to bear-hug my dearest, sweet friend…

she is like a breath of fresh air…

and every time I read Micah 6:8 I think it describes her…

“And what does the Lord require of you, But to do justice, to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?” - Micah 6:8

she doesn’t know how awesome she truly is…

but I do J

FRI

I’m willing to bet $ that “Buddy” can steal your heart in less than five minutes…

standing all of two-feet-tall, this lil ball of sunshine is all things boy—carting around his favorite trucks, cars, action-figures and as many balls as his little hands can hold— with an affinity for fast and a luv of being tossed “up” to “fly…”

his laughter has this special way of filling up the room…

especially when you agree to “superman…”

spinning yourself round and round, flying him through the sky…

but watch out, because he’ll look up at you and ask, in his most precious voice, “again?”

He had Matt searching for the dramamine…

SAT

we just luv lazy beach house mornings…

enjoying a much slower pace…

and a walk down the street for a delicious cup of Starbucks…

followed by a sit on the front porch…

enjoying the fresh seaside air from a pair of white andirondack chairs…

we also just luv that on the island the boys morph into their alter egos and put on their sous chef hats…

whipping up the most delectable breakfast treats…

while the girls flip through home design catalogues and share in each other’s love of all things home…

we also just luv that this coastal town has two main modes of transportation…

your own two tennies… or two wheels…

a splendid afternoon for busting out the beach cruisers in search of a lil island mojo…

found: @ Maggie Moo’s ice-cream parlor…

mmmmm….toasted coconut ice-cream—hello old friend

that evening our friends introduced us to a new luv…

San Diego’s, Fish Market…

where we procured the best seat in the house…

our own lil corner out over the water…

at that perfect hour between daylight and darkness…

as we watch the sun sink down behind the sea in a welter of liquid gold’s…

Matt leans in and whispers in my ear “I really miss them…”

we just love this extraordinary couple and are so thankful for this blessed gift of a weekend together…

and so, one night easily turned into two… the mere suggestion convincing us to stay a second night

SUN

the early morning rain pounding outside our open window could not dampen our coastal groove…

but we may have indulged in an extra-long lounge in bed…

till the steady drumming turned into a gentle mist...

and finally gave way to the sun…

gradually prompting us from under the covers…

the kitchen slowly filling up, one by one…

till the whole gang’s together…

ready to stuff our bellies full of the boys yummy breakfast

surrounded once again by the best of friends and lots of laughter…

hating that the time has come to say our goodbyes…

but thankful that we are brothers and sisters for eternity…

Once again crossing that blessedly familiar Coronado Bridge…

with the widows open; staring out over the beautiful bay glittering below…

leaving with cheeks sore from grinning from ear-to-ear…

and our hearts oh-so-full…
