day one of vacation: up @ 5am + 2.5 hours of traffic… Matt was NOT diggin the irony…
but it was totally worth it…
cuz dad was flying into LAX…
and we had three days in Venice, us four all-together…
today Matt and I spent the entire afternoon smiling at each other across beach towels…
there was lots of relaxing and unlimited amounts of yummy sunshine…
just enjoying the time as we waited for dad’s appointment to finish up…
this evening Matt took the four of us on a dining adventure…
La Cabana didn’t look like much on the outside…
we were all skeptical… me most of all…
but the back patio was splendid…
it had the feel of a festive summer garden…
with bright colorful lights strung up above the tables…
and the weather agreed perfectly…
the food was delish…
the company, even more fantastic J

after a good long sleep-in, we hiked down to the local coffee shop…
and enjoyed a sit around the sidewalk table, sipping our lattés and eating fresh bakery bits…
followed by a meander down the Venice pier…
late morning fog still hovered about, like filmy scarves caught on planks of the dock…
i just ♥ unhurried mornings with my loves….
afternoon came and we hit the tourist trail…
Hollywood Blvd, Grauman’s Chinese Theater, the Hollywood walk of fame, the Kodak Theater, Hollywood Bowl, Sunset Blvd, Beverly Hills, Rodeo Drive…
then called it quits at the Santa Monica Pier…
with the best table in the house at Bubba Gumps Shrimp Co…
in no hurry for the day to come to close, we started off towards the end of the pier…
and somehow i got roped into dancing with a large silver-painted man…
but it was a splendid evening: family, gorgeous weather and stunning ocean views…
leaning over the railing we watched as the sun gave up all its light; illuminating the town in its red-gold hues...
before finally sinking beneath the waves…
the ride back was pleasant, with the car windows open and talk radio playing in the background…
Matt gave the stereo knob a good twist when he heard there was rioting in LA…
at the Grauman’s Theater to be exact…
police with helmets, shields and sticks…
cars got smashed and Hollywood was gridlocked…
we were literally just there three hours ago…
glad we missed that…

a slate grey morning became an exquisite, bright sunny afternoon…
the ocean sparkled and the sky was cloudless…
the plan was to catch a few last-minute beach-units before setting out to explore more of Marina Del Rey…
but the beach was irresistible and insisted that we stay…
and that we did…
comfortable in our beach chairs we sat a few extra hours…
digging our toes a bit deeper into the sand…
lulled by the sound of the waves…
sitting in comfortable silence, enjoying the moment…
but then dad’s LA doctor’s appointment came time…
and we had no choice but to pack-it-up…
anticipating good news…
sad that we were wrong…
but never without hope…
Jeremiah 17:7 "Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in Him…"
Is 41:10 “Do no fear for I am with you; do not anxiously look about you for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you. Surely I will uphold you with my righteous hand.”
