8.29-8.31: Time With My Sweet Friend Drew :)

Monday
I ♥ strolling through beach towns…
I ♥ tired beach babies…
I ♥ eating ice cream for dinner…

I totally ♥ that I got to soak up a few extra days with my friend Drew…
I totally luved sitting with her each night—on the worn, red, beach house sofa—and chatting till our eyelids refused to stay open…
At the risk of repeating myself—she is totally the greatest!
Prov 27:17 “As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.”
Tuesday
I spent the early hours of each morning beachcombing; searching Silver Strand Beach for its silvery oyster shells…
I just ♥ the quiet and calm of those first couple hours before dawn… especially when I’m here, on this island, greeted by grey, overcast skies and the peaceful, lulling sound of waves breaking onto the beach… a beautiful occasion to quiet my heart and stretch my legs before the day launches into full effect :)
Word to the wise: as you comb this beautiful, endless, deserted beach for seashells… the beaches north and south of Silver Strand are military property; don't wander too far afield or you may find yourself greeted by a camo-colored hummer and two Navy SEALS… oops… :/

Late afternoon beckoned a beach trip for us and the kiddos…
luving the gorgeous weather…
teaching Buddy about making “sand blankets” and “sand pillows”
with a few “supermans” thrown in for good measure…
Wednesday
Today we had a lil morning adventure…
Beginning with the large, live clam I toted back from my morning beachcombing excursion…
Of course we wanted to see what was inside…

And so we set the clam about in a large pot and turned up the heat till the water bubbled and began to boil…
The jaws of the clam separating at a snail’s pace…

Till all at once there were two pieces and the clam’s insides were on the outside…
It wasn’t quite delectable looking...

So we added a few things… like butter and a squeeze of fresh lemon…
and olives for eyes…

Moment of truth: to taste or not to taste?
One slice down the middle and we all chickened out...

It was a fabulous trip—can’t wait till we can all be together again :)
