9.19 Harper Dean Leland

MONDAY
@ 5:11am I got a text from sissy: “Hospital just called… their beds just got filled in the last hour, my appointment got postponed. Said they’d call when something opens up.”

around 9am us girl went out for a coffee…
and sissy’s phone rang…
It was time :)

@ 12:00pm Pitocin was administered…
and we all situated ourselves upon the worn, faded couch in sister’s hospital room…

dialoguing through those last minute nerves…

laughing…

repeating that we couldn’t believe this was really happening…
then all at once we were ushered out

and @ 5:22pm we sat in the waiting room taking bets on Harper’s ETA…
22 minutes later @ 5:44pm a text blipped up on my phone: “Game. Set. Match.”

I ran down the hall and high-fived Jeff on his way out to tell the family the happy news.

Then threw open the door and must confess that I didn’t really even take much notice of Harper because my eyes were riveted on my sister—who sat propped up in bed staring after her beloved daughter. The look on her face was unmistakable. Awe. Unconditional, unexplainable love.

I rushed over to congratulate the new mommy, flinging my arms around my sister…
Then, before anyone else could arrive, I walked over to meet this precious little one

Anxious to meet this little girl I had been praying for

And then, there was Harper
Harper Dean Leland
Love… utterly unexpected love. This tiny human being, this little life, reduced me to wordless wonder...

from her messy, dark hair to her teeny-tiny toes
Harper = perfection

her petite, lean, little frame: 7.2 pounds, 20.5 inches
those enormous eyes gazing up—wide open, all shimmery and new
two tiny hands balled-up into tightly closed fists
the sound of her soft cooing noises…
the way she would throw her arms out wide and then quickly bring them back towards the center of her body…
I was enchanted :)

Then the whole family came pouring into the room...

and Jeff handed baby Harper to grandma…

it was a precious moment that keeps replaying in my mind...

Baby Harper you are LOVED!!!
