Tertias in Town

“Tertias” means “third one”…. a nickname rightfully bestowed upon Aaron by my parents as they always joked that he was their adopted, third child. Danielle and I were stoked to hear that both Aaron and Ashley were coming to CA for Aaron’s International Pan Jiu-Jitsu Tournament in Irvine. Our brief time together unleashed a flood of great memories from life in Phoenix… there was the illustrious magnificent seven, the late night, early morning and mid-day trips to burrito express for (the greatest culinary achievement of modern day humanity) “the ultimate breakfast burrito,” there were Tekken and soul caliber tournaments, the many nights cruising Gilbert, while laughing at the “fast and furious” wannabe’s, all the valuable times in “life group,”being in each other's weddings (and his unforgettable arm cast at mine)…so many good times!

So glad you guys came out; our casa es su casa anytime!

We Love Nanna :)

I'm probably the only person who would even think to ask my 82 year old gma-in-law to help me sew some pillow covers, but I was thinking “small project”. Albeit, I haven't used a sewing machine since Home Ec. class in Jr. High; I was totally confident that sewing pillows could not be “that hard.” I quickly realized my mistake about 20 minutes into day one; I'm completely clueless... how do you even begin cutting fabric? Where in the world do you find a "bobbin"? What is a "bobbin"?... Needless to say, it took a mere 6 hours to simply "cut out" and "zigzag stitch" the edges. (Nanna's a professionalJ!) Then another 6 hours to put the "invisible"zippers on; it was a very interrupted process because I kept sewing them in wrong and having to use that silly seam ripper to undo all my mistakes (upside down zippers, backwards zippers, wrong side up zippers, etc...I kept finding new ways to mess them up). Finally able to see the light at the end of the tunnel, we spent the last 6 hours "whip stitching" those lovely zippers and completed our “little” project by sewing up the edges (and by taking a celebratory ice-cream trip)!!! I must also say that the 16 beautiful linen pillows on the couch made the 3 days in the "sweatshop" totally worth it! THANK YOU SO, SO, SO MUCH NANNA. I totally treasured our time together and am SO grateful for your sacrifice and service on my behalf. (Also, please note that from now on I plan on buying all future pillows... so you can come back to CA without fear of being asked to return to the "factory")

HAPPY EASTER!

“And if Christ is not risen, then our preaching is empty and your faith is also empty.” 1Cor 15:14

I LOVE Easter… I rejoice that HE IS RISEN! Because without the resurrection:

  • Preaching Christ would be senseless
  • Faith in Christ would be useless
  • All the witnesses and preachers of the resurrection would be liars
  • No one would be redeemed from sin
  • All former believers would have perished
  • Christians would be the most pitiable people on earth

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance, incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.” 1Peter1:3-5

I LOVED celebrating Easter with my family. (I am SO BLESSED to no longer be working outside of our home. I came home a couple weeks ago to find Matt had set up two lawn chairs in the garage, because we have the greatest porch view ever, and he gave me about five incredible reasons for closing the “working outside of the home” chapter of my life. I LOVE watching the Lord grow my husband into such a terrific, godly leader and am constantly blessed to be Matt's wife!) To commemorate my first Easter off, Matt and I cooked our very first “real” ham (bone in and all)... It didn’t turn out quite like gmas (although it was delicious, if I might say so myself), but was a terrific start to embarking on what is “holiday cooking” (it only took us four and a half years to get started, but who’s counting…). So after a WONDERFUL Easter service, we joined our CA family and old AZ friends for a delicious meal at our parents house. I needed a video-camera for our family game of gestures (hilarious)… and to capture some crazy earthquake footage (Matt went running for the table).

HAPPY EASTER!

BAM!

So last year, (much to Matt’s dismay) I backed the new truck into the side of the garage… whoopsie. And now I sadly admit that yesterday morning as I was pulling the truck into the garage, I heard that dreadful BAM sound once again…

BAM = accidentally clipping the side of Matt’s bike, causing it to smash through the drywall, and creating a giant, tire-sized hole in the garage wall… Not the news your husband wants to hear first thing in the morning but (much to my dismay) when Matt saw the damage, he busted out laughing….

Am I married to the greatest man ever or what?

Mystery Night 2010 :)

Mystery Night 2010 =

Crazy costumes, riddles, random locations, speeding mini-vans, laughter, outrageous tasks, a little friendly competition & Christ preached to over 200 kids J

This year Mark and Matt teamed up as the legendary Mario and Luigi duo; while Kari, Shelby and I taught all 37 teams the “Hoedown Throwdown” in our Hannah Montana get-up (if I never hear that song again => J)! There were many hysterical costumes… like Niki as the chef who kept resting her arms on her big belly, or Dan as Hulk Hogan, or Shawn and Traci with full sleeve tattoos….many, many laughs!

One of my favorite moments that night had to be around 12:30am… we had just bid farewell to our counterparts at Denny’s and decided to take Clinton Keith home. Long story short, there’s a “sobriety checkpointbarricade. We pull up and hand over our license and registration; whereupon the officer looks Matt up and down twice then rudely asks “What are you wearing?”

So what did we do? We called Hulk and told him to take Clinton Keith home…
