Daily Tides 6.18 - 6.20 KCMO Trip Pt.2

SATURDAY 6.18

I drifted off to sleep listening to the steady pitter-patter of rain quietly plunking atop the skylight…

But at 2am booming thunder and howling winds flinging massive quantities of rain against the windows rattled me awake... In search of a better view I tip-toed to the backdoor; flipping on the lights was not necessary because the pitch black was overwhelmed by enormous flashes of lighting that lit up the entire downstairs like blinking lights on a Christmas tree. From the backdoor, one could not miss the way the limbs of those massive maple trees were flailing about, or the tremendous swish of the leaves billowing against each other… The sharp sound of lightening cracking kept playing tricks on me—each piercing noise leaving me certain that one of those mammoth trees had cashed-in and was currently on-course to crush the house into tiny bits-n-pieces…

Guess I wasn’t the only one who was concerned… mom appeared out of nowhere—kinda like in scary movies, when lightning flashes and all you can see is the outline of a person, then the lighting flashes again and they are standing next to you… Apparently she forgot to put the patio umbrella down before she went to bed and didn’t want the wind to pick up the umbrella and carry away the glass table situated underneath it… yep, that’s happened before L She got soaked head-to-toe in a matter of 1minute…

I tried to take a picture of the storm, but it was 2 am and there was no way I was going to take the time to mess with my camera settings, so here’s what I got…

Morning came all too soon… our struggle to wake quickly drown by the realization that today is baby Harper’s party! The boys were commissioned to tidy up the yard and return it to pre-storm condition... leaving us girls to readying the house for the par-tay!!!

There were morning deliveries to be organized, pictures to be found and framed, pink and green to be set about, bows to be fixed, furniture to be positioned, calls to be made, delegating to be done--the place was kind of a hot mess… but, in the end, it all came together beautifully J

Just in time for a houseful of great friends gathered round, smiles, games, prayers, presents, sweet treats, laughter, alphabet letters, and LOTS of pretty things for Ms. Harper J

SUNDAY 6.19

It was a very special Father’s Day…

I’m not sure when was the last time all dad’s kids were together to celebrate WITH him…

If I had to guess, it was probably seven years ago…

So the best part of Father’s Day was being together…

And taking up the entire pew at church…

MONDAY 6.20

The gloomy morning was a welcome reprieve as it kept insisting that we start the day off at a slower pace—giving us opportunity to detox from hectic vacation (J) schedules, as it were…

And thus we followed suit, spending the entire afternoon sitting at the dining room table cutting out a thousand circles from wax paper for my next DIY project (more on that later)…

Till the sun was beginning to retreat and all-at-once it was time to head downtown to meet up with Mrs. T and Mrs. A for dinner… Old friends are just the best. They remember when you ran down the street naked and love you anyways. They knew you when you were your skinniest and think you are more lovely now J
