Daily Tides 6.21 - 6.27 KCMO/OKC Trip Pt.3

TUESDAY 6.21
What crazies wake up at 5am to tromp through waist-high weeds and mud in sundresses and flip-flops???... ok, we do… just so we can catch that purdy morning light… and because we love sissy… though mom and I were semi-doubtful sissy would actually make her own photo-shoot…

My sister does everything with poise, grace and beauty… I totally her!
WEDNESDAY 6.22
Today us girls piled in the car; primed for new adventures we hit the road and headed south towards the country where it all started for us…
to a land of cowboy hats and boots, where just about everyone knows how to throw-down a wicked-good two-step on the dance floor…
to miles of cattle-spotted pastures, where between mouthfuls of chew, voices ring out that southern drawl… right y’all?
to a countryside dogged by wind, where people still say please and thank you, hold open doors and help you if you’ve dropped something…
Quoting Oklahoma’s State song…
“Plen'y of air and plen'y of room,
Plen'y of room to swing a rope!
Plen'y of heart and plen'y of hope!

Oklahoma, where the wind comes
sweepin' down the plain,
And the wavin' wheat can sure smell
sweet
When the wind comes right behind the
rain.
Oklahoma, ev'ry night my honey lamb
and I
Sit alone and talk and watch a hawk
makin' lazy circles in the sky.

We know we belong to the land
And the land we belong to is grand!
And when we say - Yeeow! A-yip-i-o-ee ay!
We're only sayin' You're doin' fine,
Oklahoma!”

THURSDAY 6.23
-Lunch with our hilarious, sweet friend Ty…
-A sit with dear Bill Sam…
-A late night at the Vanovers—picking music, finishing programs, eating pizza, writing vows…
-A reminder that laughing till it hurts is good for the soul…
-Glad some things never change J

FRIDAY 6.24
“shock” = a sudden disturbance of the mind, emotions or sensibilities…
No, I was not shocked that I got pulled over for speeding to the wedding rehearsal
Though it was kind of crazy; I was only driving 43mph…
And though I refrained from blurting out, “so you know why you pulled me over?… okay, just so one of us does…”
I was, indeed, “shocked” that he actually gave me a ticket…
Clearly my driver’s license says I belong in California…
No, I did not see that 20 foot section where the speed limit changed to 30mph…
However, I do see the speed limit sign two feet in front of me that says 40mph…
Can’t you see that I’m trying to be on time to a wedding thing…
I’ve already gotten out of 15 tickets... you could make that an even 16…
Bad cop! No donut!
To make matters worse, mom accidentally wrote out the wrong directions and I was lost way out in the boonies for a good 45 minutes…
Then unfortunately, given more bad directions, which resulted in me circling around the church for another 20minutes…
The good news: I still wasn’t the last one to arrive… phew…

SATURDAY 6.25
I weddings!
The day was perfection—the love, the couple, the place, the flowers, the guests—filled with so much happiness, emotion and LOVE.
After a dash to finish up all the last minute hullabaloo… it was time to get into that dress… now the dress was beautiful, but when Chelsea put it on, it was magical… J Breathtaking… just gorgeous!!!
Greg and Chelsea were awesome, so adorable-in-love and giggly happy. The kind of happy that is so contagious it spreads amongst their guests. Chelsea has that kind of smile, she smiles with her whole heart and her whole being—Greg clearly felt it and gave that right back to her. It’s such a beautiful thing to see two people so completely in love, the take-your-breath-away, I-would-do-anything-for-you, kind of love… when they looked at each other you could just tell they saw no one else in the room. Beautiful!!!

SUNDAY 6.26
Grandma’s sizeable spare bedroom was unrecognizable—buried somewhere beneath the several layers of articles us girls had strewn about amidst all the activity of the last four days—and so we set about stuffing copious amounts of make-up, heels, wedding flowers, dresses, cowgirl boots, party favors, nail polish, curling irons, gifts, handbags, iPods, books, fedoras, jewelry… and any other paraphernalia that belonged to us into overflowing suitcases…
because today is baby shower #2 for the much-anticipated and already much-loved Ms. Harper. J
Grandma throws the most delightful parties and makes it looks effortless… placing her elegant table decorations about in splendid fashion and simultaneously whipping up the most mouthwatering treats. It was a wonderful, fabulous evening… full of the celebration of love, life and God’s amazing perfect love and grace… always a treasured joy when family gets together.

MONDAY 6.27
The morning’s sky was breathtaking, filled with hundreds of beautiful, puffy clouds—each individually rimmed in the most fantastic shade of bright orange, all with seemingly full, deep-grey bellies…
My grandma makes everything beautiful! It’s her way… The only constant to her familiar house is that it is forever changing. She’s relentlessly adding and subtracting the perfect amounts of this and that, filling her home with interesting, lovely things and with even more LOVE!
Today we laughed together as she fixed the most delicious farewell breakfast—just like all those summers 16 years ago when the crumbs from Derek’s white-powdered-donuts dusting the wooden planks of the kitchen floors…
